Laila ben Khalifa and Hunaida Tumia are the only two women running for presidential elections among 98 candidates. After the presidential elections, the country will witness parliamentary elections. It’s worth mentioning that the Libyan electoral law number 10 for the year 2014 allocates 16 percent of the parliament’s 200 seats to women, i.e. 32 seats will be reserved for women. As well, women can obtain additional seats through public competition, as allowed by the law.
