More than a thousand Sudanese women took to the streets on Thursday to denounce the phenomenon of rape, after the United Nations reported receiving 13 reports of sexual violence that occurred during the mass demonstrations organized on the occasion of the third anniversary of the “revolution.”.

Women carried banners with slogans such as “Rape will not stop us”. Moreover, about 150 female demonstrators carried a message to the Commissioner of the United Nations Joint Office of Human Rights in Khartoum, calling for justice to the female demonstrators who were raped on December 19, as well as to all Sudanese women victims of individual or group rape since the beginning of the war in Darfur (west) in 2003.

As well, about 1,500 people, most of them women, also participated in a protest held in Omdurman, northwest of Khartoum.

About fifty civil society associations have called for actions in about 15 cities, with the United Nations reporting from time to time that “acts of sexual violence” occur, especially at the hands of the security forces or paramilitary forces affiliated with them in Darfur.
