On Wednesday, December 15, 2021, the Arab Women Organization AWO launched a regional campaign to promote the participation of women in elections, bearing the slogan (Her participation is our future).
The Director-General, Dr. Fadia Kiwan, pointed out that AWO organized several training courses in the field of political empowerment of women and that it had recently launched, in cooperation with the Westminster Foundation for Democracy, a new project at the regional level aimed at integrating a gender perspective in observing the general elections, focusing on preparing observers in this field. Kiwan stressed that the organization seeks to include men in training as well.
The campaign aims at enhancing women’s participation in elections in the Arab region, highlighting the importance of their involvement in the electoral process, helping them assume leadership positions, and overcoming obstacles and challenges facing such participation.
It is noteworthy that the campaign is implemented at the regional and national levels over a period of one year, starting from October 2021 to November 2022 in cooperation and coordination between the Independent Election Commission in Jordan, and members of the Arab Network for women in Elections, including the Arab Women Organization, The Organisation of Arab Electoral Management Bodies, The Arab Women Parliamentarians Network for. Equality “Ra’edat”, the Arab Network for Democratic Elections, Arab Women Media Center, as well as UN Women, the United Nations Development Program and IDEA.
