Amman, Feb. 22 (Petra) — Minister of State for Legal Affairs, Wafa’ Bani Mustafa, on Tuesday said that women participation in the decision-making process and political life is neither a luxury nor a choice, but rather a necessity and duty for any country that seeks to achieve democracy and sustainable development.
Bani Mustafa gave her remarks in a forum that was organized by the National Democratic Institute (NDI) and the Coalition of Women Members of Parliament from Arab Countries to Combat Violence against Women, in partnership with the Women and Family Affairs Committee and the Jordanian Women Parliamentarians Forum.
The forum, which focused on women’s gains as part of the Royal Committee to Modernise the Political System’s outcomes and how to build on it on the ground, was attended by women MPs, representatives of civil society organizations and relevant stakeholders.
“There is a Royal vision and a strong political will to enter the Jordanian state’s second centennial in a spirit of modernization and reform, which was represented by reviewing the legislation related to political reform,” Bani Mustafa said. “The Royal Committee to Modernise the Political System came out with a set of recommendations for political reform focusing on women, youth and people with disabilities.”
Speaking to the forum, the minister highlighted key constitutional amendments that were approved and aimed at empowering women, youth and people with disabilities.
