During a conference which was convened in London by Westminster Foundation for Democracy (WFD), the Coalition of Women MPs to Combat Violence against Women was launched. According to Dr. Dina Melhem, the Regional Director for the Middle East and North Africa at WFD: “The key achievement of the conference is the establishment of a regional coalition of members in Parliaments to support women against domestic violence and all kinds of violence.” Comprised of MPs from six countries, the coalition will work together with Civil Society organisations that share their goals. MP Wafa Bani Mustafa mentioned that the number of women MPs has reached an unprecedented number in Jordan and that is up to 18 women MPs who formed women caucus. confirming that it is an attempt to work for women from inside the parliament, and that it seeks to elevate the legislative oversight and representative performance and break free from the stereotypical image of women in politics.
