The Coalition of Women MPs from Arab Countries to Combat Violence against Women values the recommendations of the Royal Committee for the Development of the Judiciary and Enhancing the Rule of Law, and in particular the recommendation on fully repealing Article 308 and not only amending it as in the past. With regard to Article 98, the committee recommended not to take advantage of the mitigating excuse if it was in the name of honor. It also recommended the explicit stating of the separation of (female/male) convicted persons from (female/male) detainees. As well it recommended taking into account the particularity of the places of women’s detention.
The Coalition urges the Jordanian government and the legislative authority to follow the approach recommended by the Royal Committee, which ends the policy of impunity and achieves criminal justice for women.
The coalition values the efforts of His Majesty King Abdullah II in supporting the march of Jordanian women, improving their role, and achieving justice and full citizenship for them.
