Amman, January 10 (Petra) – The Women’s Committee in the Senate, headed by Senator Haifa Al-Najjar, discussed a study on legislative priorities in terms of women’s rights. Al-Najjar said during a meeting for the Women’s committee with the chairperson of the Coalition of Women MPs from Arab Countries to Combat Violence against Women, Wafa Bani Mustafa, that women have managed to prove themselves in many fields despite the economic difficulties, and that the political circumstances proved that Jordanian women received great royal attention to be empowered and supported in various aspects of life. Committee members indicated the importance of forming a real partnership between the various committees in the House of Representatives and their counterparts in the Senate to bring about the desired change in the field of amending legislation related to women, indicating that there are many achievements that have been achieved in the field of empowering Jordanian women. They talked about the importance of the participation of women in various sectors and different fields, especially in light of the current circumstances that require the participation of everyone to advance the various sectors of life. Bani Mustafa presented the main points of the study and the four indicators came in the global gender gap report issued by the World Economic Forum, in addition to a set of laws related to women, on top of which is the Law on Protection from Domestic violence. She also talked about the Nationality law, the Jordanian Labor Law, the Personal Status Law, the Penal Code, in addition to the proposed Local Administration Law, the draft amendment to the Cybercrime Law, and the draft law amending Preventing human trafficking Law. The members of the committee agreed to carefully consider the committee’s work mechanism and program after consensus with other committee members, in addition to setting a specific time plan for discussing various issues related to women.
