On 18/3/2021, and as part of the meeting of the Committee on the Status of Women CSW65, UN Women in Jordan, the Inter Ministerial Committee for the Empowerment of Women and the Jordanian National Committee for Women organized a round table entitled: “Violence against women in politics.” Her Excellency lawyer, Wafa Bani Mustafa, gave a presentation on the general concepts and perceptions of violence against women in public life and referred to the strategy that was implemented by the coalition in cooperation with the National Democratic Institute in their campaign to combat violence against women in public life and said: “We believed in our cause, and we identified International, regional and local partners.” She indicated that experts in academia, politics, media, political parties, economics, and decision-makers were consulted, and a national advisory team was formed to combat violence against women in public life consisting of representatives of these fields. She added that tours were carried out in 12 governorates in Jordan to meet many women to make sure that all kinds of violence they suffer from are covered. “Their observations provided us with many wonderful ideas and insights,” she said. Moreover, she pointed to a guide that has been issued to combat violence against women in public life, that included recommendations and solutions. She ended by pointing to the fact that awareness is being raised after the launch of the guide and that so far 435 people have been trained on violence against women in public life.
