The Kuwaiti army announced, on October 12, the opening of registration for Kuwaiti women to join the army and military work. According to the Ministry of Defense, registration will be open for Kuwaiti women to join the Kuwaiti army by the end of December, and their work will be limited to medical, paramedical and technical specialties.
A number of MPs expressed their rejection of the decision. MP. Hamdan AL Azemi submitted a question to the Minister of Defense, Hamad Jaber Al Ali, denying this decision. On Nov. 1st the Minister of defense, said that the army’s decisions cannot be canceled, and that the enrollment of women in the army “is in the interest of developing the capabilities of the Kuwaiti army, as is the case in the rest of the military corps in the National Guard and the police.”
