As the world celebrates International Women’s Day, the Coalition of Women MPs from Arab Countries to Combat Violence Against Women stands with all women in the Arab world. It recalls all the challenges faced by women in Gaza and Sudan and calls for joint cooperation to provide aid and assistance to women in conflicts and under aggression. The coalition also stresses the need to involve women in peace negotiations, conflict resolution, and reconstruction, and emphasizes on everything mentioned in the Muscat Declaration on Progress Made in the Implementing the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action after Thirty Years in the Arab Region, issued by the League of Arab States in December 2024.
This day reflects women’s ongoing struggle for their rights and equality, and is an opportunity to reflect on the achievements that have been made, as well as the challenges that remain.
Violence against women is an urgent and serious issue that affects all societies, and requires a collective response from various governmental and civil bodies. Therefore, the Coalition of Women MPs committed to continuing to work to strengthen legislation and policies that ensure the protection of women and provide a safe environment for them.
We emphasize the importance of education and awareness as an essential part of our efforts to combat violence, and we call on all Arab countries to implement comprehensive programs aimed at raising awareness about issues of violence and discrimination against women. We also urge the international community to support initiatives aimed at empowering women in all aspects of political, economic and social life.
Changing negative cultural norms that instigate violence is a shared responsibility, and we must all cooperate to build a society free of violence, where women enjoy their rights and their contributions are recognized.
On this special day, we reaffirm our deep commitment to addressing issues of violence against women, and to supporting all efforts aimed at achieving gender equality and spreading a culture of respect and understanding.
