The coalition of women MPs from Arab countries to combat violence against women has unfortunately received the news of the death of Israa Gharib, from Palestine, and expresses regret for her death in this way. The Coalition calls for the urgent investigation to achieve criminal justice for the deceased and disclose all the circumstances related to her death. The Coalition stresses the need to enact and enforce laws and legislation that will bring criminal justice to women and girls, and emphasizes that it stands with all girls and women at risk of being victims of violence of any form. The Coalition calls for the need for all Arab countries to quickly ratify the Arab Convention, which was launched in cooperation with the League of Arab States on December 1, 2016, on combating violence against women and girls and domestic violence.
The Coalition commends the role of the Ministry of Social Development in Palestine which follows up expeditiously passing the Family Violence Protection Law because of its importance in strengthening the justice system and tightening penalties against perpetrators.
The coalition calls for the need to renounce cyber violence and all forms of bullying, represented by spreading rumors and undermining the reputation of the deceased. The coalition recommends the need to raise awareness among young people regrading the best practices while using social media.
